Nawrus Celebration
April 2018
Frankfurt
Nawrus (or also Nouruz, Nauruz, Newroz or Nevruz) means translated “New Day” and refers to the spring festival (sometimes also New Year’s Day), which has been celebrated by more than 300 million people for more than 3000 years in Central Asia and the Middle East as well as on the Balkan Peninsula, in the Black Sea region and in the Caucasus. On 30 September 2009, UNESCO included Nawrus Day in the list of masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage of mankind. For this celebration, Tatars gathered in Frankfurt to cook, eat and spend Nawrus Day together.
